Well, Jason Isbell just tore up New York.
The Alabama-born, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter stopped by the Capitol Theatre in New York (9/14) and stormed through his songbook with equal parts ferocity and poetic grace.
With his trusty band the 400 Unit backing him up, Isbell was in primal form–numbers from his Drive By Truckers days (“Outfit” and “Decoration Day”) sizzled mightily away, while tracks like “If We Were Vampires” and “Anxiety” came across like raw classics.
Isbell’s take on “Little Wing” was nothing short of transcendent, while his reading of Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well” was a straight-up stunner.
