You can fight the holidays or you can lean into them, and this year Superchunk have decided on the latter.

The indie legends have just released Wintry Mix, a five track EP that features a holiday original called “Shortest Day Of The Year (No Tinsel Mix).”

The EP also features Superchunk taking a stab at the Wham! classic “Last Christmas,” as well as covering snow-themed tracks by Galaxie 500 and The Magnetic Fields.

In a press release frontman Mac McCaughan says of Wintry Mix: “Superchunk has recorded songs for Summer, songs for Halloween, and songs for Winter holidays as well. i see these seasonal songs as a fun puzzle to solve — writing a song or finding a cover in the same theme that so many artists have investigated in the past, and finding a way to put our own stamp on it. Getting to record five songs for our Wintry MixEP gave us more room than usual  to stretch out…Beyond that we got to explore the genius of Wham!, The Magnetic Fields, and Galaxie 500…light a fire and crank it up!”

Additionally, a double seven-inch of the EP, which will be limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and pressed on white vinyl, is available to pre-order through Superchunk’s Bandcamp page and will ship in early December.
