Let me start by saying this: Derek Trucks is the greatest guitar player on the planet.
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Tedeschi Trucks live, but I can say this: the guy just keeps getting better.
The band’s 18 song set the other night was a stirring sequence of rolling blues, sultry soul and classic rock and roll.
The band played a host of covers like Elmore James’ “Done Somebody Wrong” and Wings’ “Let Me Roll It” and they were also joined by The Wood Brothers for rousing takes on The Stones’ “Sweet Virginia and Bill Withers’ “For My Friend.”
Jimmy Vivino joined the band for two Blind Faith covers (“Can’t Find My Way Home” and “Hard To Cry Today”) and by the end of it all–a sweaty, raucous version of the aforementioned Stones’ “Sweet Virginia” the sold-out Beacon Theatre was swaying with satisfaction.
What a night.
