Billy Bragg’s Rolling Forty tour rolled right into Connecticut’s District Music Hall the other night (10/15) and the show was an endless set of thrills.
Bragg proved decades ago that a spartan approach is as enriching as all the pyrotechnics in the world and armed with just a guitar, a keyboard-playing sidekick and a satchel filled with winners, Bragg’s musical pedagogy remains as durable as they come.
“The Wolf Covers Its Tracks” got the night going and from there, Bragg reached into that aforementioned satchel and pulled out career-spanning numbers like “Levi Stubbs’ Tears,” “Greetings To The New Brunette,” and the auspicious “All You Fascists Are Going To Lose.”
Chatty as ever and filled with world weary wisdom and observational smarts, when Bragg talks we all listen and his political smarts in an uncertain time were of tremendous comfort.
