UK-based indie rock trio We Three And The Death Rattle shakes it up on its latest single, the seismically rockin’ “I See Static”, which arrives October 14th via PAW//PURR. Amy Cooper (vocals) and twin brothers Jon (guitar, vocals) and Andy (drums) Bennett roar through “I See Static” with single-minded fervor, merging gritty garage-rock with grungy blues and punk attitude.
Stark, but kicky verses laced with Cooper’s deadpan vocals explode into dynamic chorus sections filled with a massive, chugging rhythm of distorted guitar jags, heavy waves of keyboard notes, and rapid-fire drumming. Cooper, taking on a first-person perspective with the lyrics, exclaims that she’s in for “…an oil slick of trouble.” on a track that that tackles the issue of an individual’s loss of identity and what truly constitutes the self.
The video for “I See Static”, which premieres here, mirrors this disquieting mindset where life is “…never less than a rollercoaster.” Cooper and the Bennett brothers are seen performing live through a thick flurry of white snow while an omnipotent controller views the proceedings through various video monitors. The trio is swathed in static to the point of being blotted out, a potent symbol of the lost soul.
The “I See Static” video was filmed and edited by Fraser West and Ross West and produced by David Fellows:
