Australian contemporary classical music composer/pianist Luke Howard is an international name on the live performance circuit, regularly playing shows in the UK and Europe, with an upcoming London date in November. Howard released Open Heart Story, his first album for record label Mercury KX, this past May.
Stereo Embers is pleased to host the video premiere of the third track off Howard’s LP, the beautifully contemplative “Bear Story II” on piano. This exclusive video footage displays Howard at his best, creating music that transports the listener to a different realm.
The sepia-toned video focuses on Howard’s hands as his fingers alight delicately on the piano keys. The Yamaha’s top is open, and several shots of the moving hammers are interspersed throughout his thoughtful piano-playing.
Akin to artists like Nils Frahm and Max Richter, Howard’s music has been streamed on Spotify over 21 million times. Open Heart Story showcases intimate solo piano pieces, as well as works with a 23-member string orchestra enriched by subtle electronics.
On the subject of his latest album, Howard reveals it was, “Written at a time of introspection and self-reflection… Open Heart Story explores fragmented relationships, childhood memories and getting older.”
