Stereo Embers’ TRACK OF THE DAY: CaStLeS “Amcanu”

Written by:

The latest single from the Welsh outfit CaStLeS defies categorization.

“Amcanu” is a stunner of a track that somehow brings to mind elements of Bobby McFerrin, Animal Collective and a dash of Paul Simon.

I can’t stretch the parallels beyond that – this is pretty original stuff.

On this number, vocals interchange between two voices, complimenting each other perfectly, weaving in and out of the instrumentation. Inventive percussion and a pull-tug type rocking rhythm provides a calming yet wistful backdrop.

It’s a great sonic recipe.

So who are CaStLeS?

They’re a relatively young band from Northern Wales, comprised of brothers Dion and Cynyr Hamer, together with Calvin Thomas. They formed their band in the Welsh town of Snowdonia in 2008.

“Amcanu” is taken from their debut album Fforesteering, which drops November 18.

Two upcoming shows are also worth taking note of for our readers in the UK. First, their album launch will take place in Cardiff on the 15th of November at the Moon Club (alongside other Sound Affects roster acts Ani Glass, Conformist and newcomers Wintercoat).

The second show will take place on 17th November for MPA/ PRS at 229 Great Portland Street in London.
