Today we present you the full Start My Center album stream of the latest album from NYC-based anti-folk wonders American Anymen.
Their new single “Selectively Stupid” underscores the sad state of police brutality and social injustice, with shocking incidents thrust in front of us on what seems to be a daily basis. The track has already been creating a digital ruckus in the blogosphere, partially due to the topical nature of the song and also because it really seems like America has gone apeshit over the past few weeks and this is clearly reflected in the provocative video the band launched to accompany the track.
Start My Center is the band’s 11th album and it was produced by Jen Turner (Natalie Merchant, Here We Go Magic), also known for her involvement in recording Swans’ latest album The Glowing Man. Founded by singer/songwriter and guitarist Brett Sullivan in 1999 in NYC’s Lower East Side, American Anymen’s current lineup also includes Tracy Brooks on drums, and Harlem-based 20-year-old Nova Luz on bass, with all members contributing vocals.

American Anymen are anything but conventional – they loop and experiment with guitars in an exceptional way that allows them to weave a punk-infiltrated rap vibe into their sonic fabric – call it an eclectic cocktail of raw early phase punk with indie rock and progressive hip-hop. This is the musical future of the frustrated urban rap intellectual with a timely message that can be grasped by anyone breathing (unless they are part of the problem)…
The band celebrates the release of their new album with a concert at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City Saturday, July 16.
Capital/Universal recording artists and Cocteau Twins’ prodigies The Veldt join A Deer A Horse with performances to help American Anymen ring in their new release.
