We are thrilled to announce our Editor at Large, David Porter, will represent Stereo Embers Magazine at “Bruce Springsteen’s Darkness on the Edge of Town: An International Symposium,” the inaugural academic conference sponsored by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The conference celebrates the 40th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s 1978 classic, Darkness on the Edge of Town.
The conference, from April 12th through April 15th, will welcome an international roster of participants, as well as a host of keynote speakers and musical acts celebrating the life and times of the Jersey Shore and popular music.
Porter will be part of a discussion, “Springsteen and Other Musical Genres,” which will take place on Saturday, April 14th.
Porter was invited to participate after submitting “Life Itself – Bruce Springsteen’s Working on a Dream,” a feature-length review of Springsteen’s 2009 album originally published on Stereo Embers as “The Secret Rooms Where His Voice Still Consoles Us: A Look Back At Bruce Springsteen’s Working On A Dream.”
“I can’t express how amazed and delighted I am to have been asked to participate at the Darkness on the Edge of Town symposium,” said Porter. “As a lifelong Springsteen fan, a music writer and a New Jersey native, I don’t know that it’ll ever get any better than this! I’m also honored to be attending as the Editor at Large of Stereo Embers Magazine, which has been the home of all of my music writing since 2007. I’m proud of the work all of our writers and photographers have done since Alex Green founded the site and I hope I can help get SEM even more recognition for the quality of its work and the open-mindedness of its music coverage.”
