Author Mary Volmer will be In Conversation with Stereo Embers’ Alex Green tonight at A Great Good Place For Books in Oakland.

The event begins at 7pm.

The subject of their discussion will be Volmer’s new novel Reliance, Illinois, which is one of the most critically-acclaimed books of the year.

Author Karen Joy Fowler raved: “Reliance, Illinois has it all—mystery, politics, war; love, death, and art. In finely wrought sentences, Volmer’s novel follows such a lively cast of characters, first and foremost her marvelous protagonist Madelyn. Every page is a pleasure.”

Elsewhere, the San Jose Mercury News declared: “Female protagonists in author Mary Volmer’s historical fiction novels are resilient, educated, street smart, intrepid…”

“Brimming with authenticity and heart, Reliance, Illinois is one of the best books I’ve read all year,” Alex says. “Mary writes with velocity and nerve and her work just knocks me out. This is going to be a wildly entertaining and fascinating discussion.”
