Scouting Report: She Made Me Do It

“So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing,” T.S. Eliot once wrote.

He would have loved She Made Me Do It.

This is a band that knows all about the stillness, the dancing and the darkness.

In fact, the London duo’s songs seem to take place in the deepest parts of the night, where blades get dragged across alleys and shadows move with elegant muscle in and out of the darkness. There’s a prowling menace to all of the numbers on the band’s new album Endless Dream State, but there’s also a hypnotic glow that’s seductive and inviting.

Comprised of Shaheena Dax (Rachel Stamp) on vocals and keyboards with Will Crewdson (Adam Ant/Bow Wow Wow/Flesh For Lulu) on guitars and keyboards, She Made Me Do It know how to set a scene–layers of synths wrap around Crewdson’s masterful guitar work, while Dax’s vocals are brimming with a haunting authority.

From the lashing “Bed Of Lies” to the foreboding “Gaslight,” Endless Dream State is packed with dark, cinematic thrills.  The hypnotic “Oh Boy” is as savage as it is hypnotic, the sexy pull of “Fantascopic” is impossible to resist and “God Of London” is a searing splash of electronic perfection.

She Made Me Do It were great sports about filling out our Scouting Report questionnaire.
