Singer-songwriter Rykarda Parasol is known for her stark, moody, noir sound and astute, lyrics-centered story-telling songs that are graced by her deeply rich and brooding to longing vocals. The San Francisco, California-based (and part-time Paris, France-dwelling) artist has self-released four stunning albums whose covers she designed herself, The Color of Destruction being her latest acclaimed LP.

Parasol, a woman of many talents, is now set to release her embroidery-illustrated poetry book, An Object of Pleasure, June 8th with a book release, reading, and illustration exhibit at Z Space Performing Arts Theatre in San Francisco from 6pm to 9pm.

The book and illustrations will be available for purchase, along with special pricing for this event only. The special engagement is free to the public and edibles and refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome, but let it be noted that the embroidered illustrations have partial, yet whimsical nudity. The illustration exhibit portion of this event will run through August 25th.

An Object of Pleasure is Parasol’s debut as an author (although her music-writing would seem to qualify as such too). The official press release states, “An Object of Pleasure is a narrative poem of a young female artisan” “lacking” “self-worth” who “seeks self-preservation in the images she embroiders. It is a dark, sexy, whimsical, and utterly tender tale of finding comfort through one’s crafts (Though it may be a somewhat skewed endeavor!). The endearing embroideries which illustrate the book are uniquely intertwined into the narrative poem.”

Parasol records in San Francisco and performs live mainly in Europe. She and her Warsaw, Poland-located band have toured extensively through Europe and have played at the Warsaw Opera House alongside the French musical luminaries Thomas Dutronc and Louanne. Parasol has gained praise from notable press like Vice, SF Guardian, SF Chronicle, LA Weekly, Timeout New York, Rolling Stone Germany, and many more.
