Tedeschi Trucks blazed through a 6-night run at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan and I was lucky enough to catch night #4.
And what a night it was.
The Florida band’s set was a winning collection of originals and covers and they played with soulful authority and sheer rootsy bliss.
From the searing “High and Mighty” to the bluesy wonder of “It’s So Heavy,” TTB were in fine form. Their take on the Box Tops’ “The Letter” was fluid and strong; their reading of Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice” was nothing short of sublime and the set-closing cover of The Coasters’ “Let’s Go Get Stoned” was one of the best concert enders I’ve ever witnessed.
Featuring guest appearances by Eric Crasno, Robert Randolph and Mark Whitfield, the night was filled with virtuoso performances. Derek Trucks is practically peerless on guitar and Susan Tedeschi’s voice is a soaring blast of fire and soul.
Utterly perfect.
