Peter Hook & The Light are set to play the complete works of Joy Division next Monday (May 18) at Christ Church Macclesfield for an event benefitting the Epilepsy Society and The Churches Conservation Trust.
Titled So This Is Permanence, the May 18 gig will be a performance of the complete works of Joy Division–every single track ever written and recorded will be played. The Christ Church show is of special significance as it’s the town where the legendary band was formed. Named after a lyric in the song “Twenty Four Hours,” This Is Permanence will be a moving and rousing look back at the career of a band who got their start 35 years ago and remain one of the most influential acts of all time.
Although Joy Division rehearsed at the Talbot Pub in Macclesfield, the band never played live in the town where both Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris were born and raised.
As for the venue itself, Christ Church is a centrally located 18th century church in Macclesfield that, in spite of not being used for 30 years, has sprung back to life and is even being considered as a regular venue for the arts.
All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Epilepsy Society and the Churches Conservation Trust. The donation to the CCT will be earmarked for the Christ Church renovation.
Because tickets for the 3-hour event sold out quickly, Live Here Now will be recording the show and will release it as a 3CD pack in full color, digitally printed packaging. The CD will be made available directly after the show and mail orders will be shipped three days later.
Proceeds from the release will also benefit the charities Epilepsy Society and The Churches Conservation Trust.
Before the concert begins, the legendary John Robb will host a talk with Kevin Cummins in the marquee on the lawns outside Christ Church.
Concurrent with the performance is “I Remember Nothing,” a Joy Division exhibition taking place at Charles Roe House in Macclesfield on Sunday the 17th and Monday the 18th.
