Still touring behind their last album—2021’s marvelous self-titled affair—Kentucky’s My Morning Jacket played the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut the other night (9/16) to a packed house.
Singer Jim James was in fine form, his voice a soaring, more muscular version of Jackson Browne, rising and falling in exquisite blasts of harmonic bliss.
The band’s set was a perfect mix from the band’s nearly ten-album discography. Numbers like “First Light” and “Where To Begin” were fabulous, while “Gideon” and “Lay Low” were hard to beat.
The encore was comprised of tracks like “Evil Urges” and “Dancefloors” and the night-closing “Phone Went West” was just stunning.
