I’ve been to a lot of shows but seeing The Marco Benevento Band the other night at Levon Helm Studios was one of the most exhilarating and intimate concert experiences I’ve ever had.

Celebrating the release of their smoldering new live album Barn Burner: Live At Levon’s, Marco and his band (Karina Rykman on bass and drummer Chris Corsico) stormed through an energizing set that was jam-packed with virtuoso musicianship and tons of fun. The show was the first of two nights to mark the release of the album and it was nothing short of a celebratory affair.

The New Jersey-born Benevento is an absolute master behind the keys and in Rykman and Corsico he was flanked by one of the best rhythm sections imaginable. “Free Us All” and “Fireworks” were especially memorable, but who am I kidding? The entire night was perfect.
