Old-school neo-soul and R&B outfit Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics mixes classic sounds with a fresh flair, including on new single “Call Out My Name.”
The Atlanta, Georgia-located, independent collective has been winning raves from media giants like MTV, The New York Daily News, and Paste, as well as attaining successful record sales during a low time in the music industry.
Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics has sold a quarter-million downloads on iTunes, hit Billboard’s Heatseekers charts, and slotted in at #4 on iTunes’ R&B charts. The act has also shared the stage with such luminaries as The Temptations, Erykah Badu, the XX, Animal Collective, and Feist.
New single “Call Out My Name” continues to wow with its opening that recalls The Four Tops’ classic “Reach Out (I’ll Be There)”. It struts into different territory on the verses, shifting to Ruby Velle’s alluring vocal tone and winding instrumentation touched by horns and organ notes and punctuated by an emphatic drum beat.
