The Mike Dillon Band tore it up the other night at the Brooklyn Bowl.
The Vicious Vicar of the Vibraphone, Dillon is a singular musical talent. A mixture of Darby Crash, Captain Beefheart and John Coltrane, the Texas-born Dillon has, in true rhythmatist fashion, seemingly found the through line between punk rock, jazz and funk. A veteran of bands like Critters Buggin’, Hairy Apes BMX and Billy Goat, Dillon is a ferocious and feral performer who you can’t take your eyes off of.
Touring behind his latest record Band Of Outsiders, Dillon and his band were awesome. Opening up for the Dean Ween Group, Dillon and his cohorts stormed the stage and played some of the most startlingly fresh, exciting and captivating music I’ve heard in years.
Here are some of my favorite shots of the night.
