Stereo Embers’ Alex Green will be interviewing the legendary Maira Kalman for A Great Good Place For Books’ ongoing In Conversation series.
Kalman’s new book Beloved Dog is a breathtakingly beautiful, hilarious and moving look at canine companionship and the transformative influence dogs have in our lives.
“..The most tender, complicated, most generous part of our being blossoms without any effort, when it comes to the love of a dog,” Kalman writes. Her book certainly echoes this sentiment–the illustrations are charming and compelling and the book is a love letter to the dogs that have been in Kalman’s life.
Born in Tel-Aviv, Kalman is the author of And the Pursuit of Happiness and The Principles of Uncertainty. In addition to her New Yorker covers and her set designs for the Mark Morris Dance Group, she illustrated Michael Pollan’s Food Rules and the bestselling edition of William Strunk and E. B. White’s The Elements of Style. Her work is shown at the Julie Saul Gallery in Manhattan.
No stranger to public discourse, Alex has done live on-stage interviews with Lysley Tenorio, Bruce Bauman, Cristina Garcia, Alexis Landau, Joshua Mohr, Kenneth Oppel, Kathryn Ma and Janice Cooke Newman.
The event is Friday, November 13 at 7pm in the Montclair Presbyterian Church in Oakland.
