Let Love Win: A Plea For Kermit The Frog And Miss Piggy To Reconcile

Written by:

Celebrity love has taken a beating lately.

First, Ben and Jennifer broke up.

Then Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert sang a farewell song.

And yesterday not one, not two, but three celebrity couples broke up: Gwen Stefani broke up with her husband Gavin, Will Smith broke up with wife Jada Pinkett, and Reba McEntire broke up with her husband.

Breaking up is not necessarily a bad thing, but there’s one couple I’m begging to rethink their breakup: I’m talking about Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

Yes, our fine flippered frog and the porcine beauty have called it quits. They announced it on their Facebook pages with this announcement:

“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding.”

Well, that’s just great. Just great.

Kermit and Piggy!

My generation has been through enough trials and tribulations. We’ve been through several recessions. Now the celebrity couple of our childhood has broken up?

It was love at first sight at the Bogen County Fair, where Miss Piggy became queen. Well, first sight for Piggy. Kermit took some convincing. They bickered all through The Muppet Show, but you knew those crazy kids loved each other. When Miss Piggy ran for president in 1980, Kermit was right by her side. When she lost, he was right there by her, saying “This isn’t the end. Let’s go make some movies.”

And they did, with The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppets Take Manhattan.

They even stayed strong when their greatest friend Jim Henson died in 1990.

Let’s face it, just saying their names make a person smile.

It’s because they’re just so darned cute, be it running though the grass in The Muppet Movie, or singing duets to songs like “I Won’t Dance” “Ukulele Lady” and “Waiting at the Church.”   They have that rare chemistry some couples dream of having: His calm greenness and her pink timbre has delighted so many generations of men, women, children, and senior citizens.

Has any other couple done that?

Now some are thinking this is a publicity stunt to promote their new show (The Muppets will debut on September 22, 2015 on ABC) but can we take that chance? Besides, Entertainment Weekly is already reporting Piggy is dating Topher Grace, giving them the nickname “Topiggy.”

There are some couples that should never ever break up: Stephen and Tabitha King, Ina and Jeffrey Garten, and Miss Piggy and Kermit.

Let love win, Kermie and Piggy!

For the love of God, let love win!
