John Doe played an intimate and moving set the other night at the Congregational Church in Montclair, New Jersey.
The X frontman’s show was put on by Outpost In The Burbs, a non-profit organization which, according to their website, is a “non-profit outreach organization dedicated to building community through music, community service and cultural programs.” (You can read all about this terrific organization here:)
Playing songs from his new album The Westerner, along with various other numbers from his legendary career, Doe was genial and engaging and his voice has never sounded better. He played X songs (“Poor Girl” and “See How We Are”), covers by Merle Haggard and Joni Mitchell and one of his newest songs, “My Darling, Blue Skies” sounded like an instant classic.
