Fresh off the Stars Align tour with Ann Wilson of Heart and Paul Rodgers, Jeff Beck stopped by the Capitol Theatre the other night (8/15) for a blistering set of musical virtuosity.
Flanked by singer Jimmy Hall, bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and cellist Vanessa Freebairn-Smith, Beck stayed in the pocket the whole night, playing blazing chords that coursed through the legendary Port Chester venue.
Beck doesn’t say much, but he doesn’t have to. He speaks with his instrument and in that sense, he speaks volumes.
“Pull It” and “Stratus” were scorching and precise while “Nadia” was decidedly moving.
Hall provided soulful accompaniment on “Morning Dew” and Freebairn-Smith’s solo during “You Know You Know” was nothing short of riveting.
The Surrey-born Beck is an ageless presence–his playing is effortless and you simply can’t take your eyes off the guy.
