UK fans were gearing up to see D’Angelo play a rare one-off gig tomorrow night (March 6), but the elusive singer has pulled the plug at the last second.
D’Angelo’s show was to be held at the Eventim Apollo in London.
D’Angelo’s management released the following statement about the show’s cancellation: “As D’Angelo has been working in the studio, deep in the recording process, he apologises to any fans that this announcement might impact and is excited to see you all in June. We thank you for your continued patience and cooperation and look forward to an amazing tour.”
Dubbed years ago by SEM’s Alex Green as “The J.D. Salinger of Soul,” D’Angelo is a puzzling, albeit brilliant artist. With only three albums to his name, including a 14-year gap between the second and third record, he’s adhered to his own personal agenda over the course of his career.
2014’s Black Messiah was a scorching return to form and his live shows in support of that record brought to mind everyone from Sly Stone to Prince to Otis Redding.
