New Jersey-based folk noir singer-songwriter Caroline Blind just unveiled her new music video for “Need to Say,” a darkly wistful track off of Blind’s debut solo album The Spell Between, which was released via Motherofsky in 2020.
Blind is known as the former frontwoman of Gothic rock band Sunshine Blind, but she’s also making herself known as a solo and collaborative artist.
The Spell Between transfixes with an eclectic mix of original and cover songs, and reinterpretations of Sunshine Blind tracks. The LP also features quite a compelling guest artist roster that includes members of The Wake, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Switchblade Symphony, and Faith and the Muse.
The poignant “Need to Say” and its accompanying music video is a tribute to Blind’s late father. A ruminative Blind drapes her velvety sigh over gentle brushes of brittle acoustic guitar, deeply resounding guitar notes, and subdued synths press, lamenting “Time passed us by / Now there’s no more tomorrows…”
The video clip spotlights Blind performing the reflective song, with an overlay of various understated, but symbolic images, like raindrops on a window pane, the sky seen through dense forests, and a candlelight vigil.
