The rumors have been flying for months, but now Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold has verified that his band is indeed working on new material.
With Pecknold enrolled in Columbia University for the last couple of years, the Seattle band has been on an indefinite hiatus, their last record being 2011’s Helplessness Blues.
But the elusive Pecknold has been more front and center lately, opening gigs for Joanna Newsom and posting regularly on Instagram.
There have been reports that there will be a wealth of Fleet Foxes-related music on the way, including a purported solo record from Pecknold, who debuted a few new solo songs–including one spacey psych-folk number called “Swimming”–while on tour with Newsom.
Pecknold wrote on social media this week: “…my plan is to record and tour and then go back to finish after so not soon.”
When he was pressed to clarify if that meant a solo album or new Fleet Foxes material, Pecknold wrote: “FF + etc.”
He went on to write that the new songs he’s working on have a “different vibe from both [the early material] and 2008-2011 FF…please trust my time-fortified discernment as I endeavor to scrub the soundfield of BS and empty sonic reference.”
