Doyle Bramhall II made a stop at the Fairfield Theater Company the other night (Nov. 14) and he was fabulous.
The Austin-born musician is one of the finest guitarists on the planet and he played a powerful set of blissful blues and rootsy stomp.
Still touring behind his latest effort Rich Man–which is his first since 2001–Bramhall was earnest, engaging and filled with a smoky charisma. His take on George Harrison’s “Let It Down” was nothing short of smoldering and his thunderous reading of The Beatles’ “She Said She Said” was as soulful as it was stirring.
He also offered a killer rendition of Issac Hayes’ “Hung Up On My Baby” and a stellar cover of Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s “I Get A Feeling.”
Meanwhile, “My People” was crushingly perfect and “New Faith” was decidedly moving.
