Franz Ferdinand don’t have much patience for Donald Trump.
Today the Scottish band released a searing anti-Trump number called “Demagogue” which satisfyingly skewers the GOP Presidential nominee.
The song is part of the “30 Days, 30 Songs” project, which debuts a new anti-Trump track every day from now until the day of the election. The project was started by author and McSweeney’s founder Dave Eggers along with Jordan Kurland, who owns Zeitgeist Artist Management.
Other participating artists include R.E.M., Death Cab For Cutie, Aimee Mann and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.
In a statement about the project, Eggers explained its mission is to, “…motivate voters to stand against bigotry, sexism, hatred and ignorance.”
After attending a Trump rally in California a few months ago, the idea for “30 Days, 30 Songs” took root. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Eggers said: “[I] was surprised to hear Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ played while Trump’s plane taxied toward the rally…It was hilarious and perverse, and had a very emasculating effect on the man who stepped out of the plane. So it made me think that the right song had the power to puncture the unholy orb of pressurized hatred that is Trump. That’s when we started talking about it. But the real momentum happened in September.”
Franz Ferdinand’s fiery track perfectly captures the agitation, intolerance, prejudice, and irrationality of the Trump campaign.
