The David Bromberg Band Live In Connecticut

Written by:

The Grammy-nominated guitarist David Bromberg played the Fairfield Theatre Company the other night (2/2) and he was fabulous.

No musical style is off limits for the legendary Philadelphia-born, Tarrytown-raised Bromberg–his set expertly moved from bluegrass to folk to jazz with the kind of effortlessness that can only come at the hands of a true virtuoso.

After nearly twenty years of silence, Bromberg has been quite active in recent years, putting out five marvelous records since 2007. In fact, his latest effort The Blues, The Whole Blues And Nothing But The Blues came out just last year on Greg Brown’s Red House Records.

The Columbia-educated guitarist studied with Reverend Gary Davis in the ’60s and that’s where he honed his unique fingerpicking style.

Genial, gentle and supremely gifted, Bromberg’s FTC set was an elegant clinic from one of the most talented and respected musicians around. Flanked by fiddle player Nate Grower, guitarist Mark Cosgrove, drummer Josh Kanusky, and bassist Suavek Zaniesienko, it was one of the most satisfying shows I’ve seen in a long time.
