Bill Murray And His Blood Brothers Live In New York

Written by:

Bill Murray is busy.

So busy, in fact, that the night his band was set to play the Capitol Theatre, the legendary actor was over at Radio City Music Hall performing at the SNL50 Homecoming concert.

Murray raced back over the Capitol and though he was late for his own show, nobody at the Port Chester venue was bothered by that at all; they were positively thrilled when he hit the stage.

Bill Murray And His Blood Brothers—which is Murray along with blues guitarists Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia—played a joyful set of rock and roll and blues standards that included numbers by everyone from the Dave Clark Five to Bob Dylan.

Murray may be the bandleader, but throughout the set he would step back and play percussion, letting Zito and Castiglia handle the heavy lifting with expert blues authority.

Numbers like The Kinks’ “Tired Of Waiting For You” and Jr. Walker and the All Stars’ “Shotgun” were standouts, but the night was such a blast it was hard to pick favorites.

Murray took the lead on “Like A Rolling Stone,” “In The Midnight Hour” and “Love The One Your With,” and he inhabited each number with effortless command.

A Jimmy Vivino guest spot, a cover of “Little Red Corvette” and Murray ending the show throwing flower petals into the crowd made this a perfect night of live music.
