As The Crow Flies Live In New York

Written by:

As The Crow Flies kicked off their tour at the Capitol Theater the other night (4/17) and it was one of the most triumphant and satisfying nights of rock and roll I’ve witnessed in a long, long time.

For the uninitiated, As The Crow Flies is a band comprised of former Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson along with his Chris Robinson Brotherhood alums Adam MacDougall and Tony Leone, former Black Crowes Andy Hess and Audley Freed, and the blues giant Marcus King.

The close to two-hour set was a soulful blast of rhythmic perfection (“Remedy”), bluesy howl (“Sting Me”) and rock and roll smarts (“Thorn In My Pride”).

“She Talks To Angels” was utterly wrenching; “Jealous Again” sizzled away and the cover of CSN’s “Almost Cut My Hair” was a defiant nod to how important it is to maintain integrity in a world that’s always trying to compromise it.
