The legendary composer Angelo Badalamenti has died.
The Brooklyn-born Badalamenti is said to have died of natural causes in the company and care of his family on December 11th.
Trained on piano and french horn, the young Badalamenti was educated at the Manhattan School of Music. After graduation, the musician operated under the sobriquet Andy Badale, and wrote songs for Shirley Bassey and Nina Simone.
He scored movies throughout the ’70s and ’80s, but his work with David Lynch is what brought his work to a wider audience.
He teamed up with Julee Cruise for “Mysteries Of Love” which appeared on the Blue Velvet soundtrack, which he also scored.
He also produced soundtracks for other Lynch projects like Twin Peaks andĀ Mulholland Drive and he scored Wild At Heart, Lost Highway and The Straight Story.
Badalamenti took home the Grammy in 1991 in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category, for the “Twin Peaks Theme.”
He and Cruise teamed up on the albums Floating Into The Night and The Voice Of Love.
Over the course of his career, Badalamenti collaborated with David Bowie, The Pet Shop Boys, Paul McCartney, Orbital, Roberta Flack and Marianne Faithfull.
