Brian Fallon stopped by the other night (5/17) to play an intimate show at the Crossroads in New Jersey.
Matthew Ryan opened the show.
The Red Bank-born singer/songwriter was pretty much on his home turf and his 16-song acoustic set was nothing short of revelatory, confirming what we already know: Brian Fallon is one of the great ones.
Whether he was covering Lyle Lovett (“Nobody Knows Me”) and Molly and the Zombies (“Smoke”), playing numbers from his band The Gaslight Anthem’s songbook (“American Slang” and “National Anthem”), or offering up tracks from his solo work (“Rosemary” and “Forget Me Not”), Fallon was a commanding presence.
Soulful, gritty and filled with a perfect balance of darkness and light, his set was a riveting dose of rock and roll and truth.
