Alex Green’s New Novel The Heart Goes Boom Out Now

Alex Green’s new novel The Heart Goes Boom is out now.

Published by Wrecking Ball Press, the book is about the exploits of the deeply flawed TV star Kieran Falcon who’s instructed by the fortuneteller (and notary) Madame Bernstein to assemble a team of four to help him find true love or else be forgotten forever. The problem is, the cards say he only has two weeks. At breakneck speed, Falcon and his team meet a cast of characters who may or may not teach them everything they need to know. There are swords in stones at ski resorts, inspirational speakers dressed in Christmas sweaters in April and former pop stars who stay at home smashing glass with baseball bats.

“My main goal,” Alex tells us, “was to write a novel that was funnier than Death In Venice. I feel comfortable telling you I think I did that.”

An indie rock love fable, The Heart Goes Boom may or may not be the first novel to contain a mute magician who looks like Johnny Depp, a shark expert from Sheffield and a little-known synth band named Dickens 7.

“It’s inspired by Candide, The Princess Bride and the Jazz Butcher Conspiracy’s Distressed Gentlefolk,” Alex says.

He also clears up the confusion about distinguishing the name of the book from the name of his weekly radio show on Primal Radio. “The radio show has nothing to do with the book and the book has nothing to do with the radio show,” he tells us. “I just ran out of names.”

He goes on to say, “A friend of mine is in a band and he called me last week and asked me to help him name his new album. I’ll give you one guess what my answer was. That’s right: Thriller.
