Alex Green will be chatting next week with author Risa Nye as part of A Great Good Place For Book’s ongoing In Conversation series.

The event will be Thursday, June 16th at 7pm. and will take place at the Bay Area Children’s Theater in Oakland (2162 Mountain Blvd.).

Nye’s new memoir There Was A Fire Here is an account of the 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm that found the author on the brink of turning 40 and faced with the unimaginable loss of her home. While the fire swallowed almost 2,000 acres, it also killed 25 people, injured 150 and destroyed over 3,000 homes.

Nye’s book talks about what we lose in our lives and what we gain from those losses. Her writing is frank, funny and moving and her detailed account of the devastation of the fire is written with momentum and nerve. It’s one of the most affecting books of the year.
