“After 30 years, his music still evokes an era when pop songs were shimmering confections of less than three minutes…played on portable record players and AM radios,” Stereo Embers’s David Porter once wrote of Marshall Crenshaw.
He’s absolutely right.
I got a chance to see Marshall Crenshaw (backed by the Bottle Rockets!) play the other night at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s Stage One and his set was an inspired and precise collection of some of the most greatest pop songs you’ll likely to ever hear. His voice, a lustrous and commanding instrument, rolled masterfully through each number and whether he was playing an old favorite or newer material, it all sounded familiar, awesome and, let’s face it, perfect.
