There Won’t Be An R.E.M.Reunion, But Michael Stipe Says He Will Sing Again

Written by:

Here’s the bad news.

An R.E.M. reunion is about as likely as a Smiths reunion.

That might be a tough fact to swallow for those of us who were weaned on Reckoning and Murmur, but that’s the way it is and that’s the way it shall forever be.

Appearing on CBS This Morning this weekend to promote R.E.M.’s massive DVD REMTV–Rhino’s whopping six-disc video collection–Michael Stipe said of an R.E.M. reunion: “No. That will never happen… There’s no point. I love those guys very much and I respect them hugely as musicians and as songwriters and everything but I just don’t want to do that thing that people do…I despise nostalgia. I’m not good at looking back.”

However, in spite of that, Stipe did shed some light on his musical future, and admitted that he will be stepping behind a microphone again.

“That’s maybe an exclusive, but I think I will sing again,” he said. “Not soon, maybe…I don’t know.”
