After months of flirting with Ewan McGregor, Catfish And The Bottlemen have finally lured the Scottish actor into their camp.
Employing a series of guerilla-style tactics–singer Van McCann compiled scenes from McGregor’s films with the band’s “Kathleen” playing behind it, while drummer Bob Hall played shows with McGregor’s face embossed on his kit–Catfish And The Bottlemen finally caught McGregor’s attention.
McCann’s tweets to the actor along with a video piece he created called 10 Reasons Why I Love Ewan McGregor could have resulted in a restraining order, but McGregor breakfasted with the Welsh band while both of them were in New York and the actor became an instant fan.
So much so, that he directed and stars in the new video for “Hourglass,” which is a compelling and contemplative mini-movie.
Not only that, but McGregor’s 19-year-old daughter Clara even pitched in by taking the photograph for the cover of the single.
The picture is of the Aussie-born McCann posing with McGregor.
And now McGregor is not only a fan, he’s become a friend.
On the band’s official Facebook page, McCann wrote:
Proper excited to say that, with great honour, we’d like to present you a short film for our new single “HOURGLASS” starring an all time hero of ours SIR EWAN McGREGOR!
Directed by the main man Jim Canty. This is one of the best things we’ve been a part of and Honestly working with Sir Ewan was one of the funnest things I think i’ll ever get to do. He’s the most interesting and interested guy i’ve ever met. He’s just fucking brilliant. Total gentleman! When people tell you not to meet the people you look up to, ARE YA MADDDD!!!!! He genuinely buzzes off the band. Sends me photos of him listening to us before he walks onstage on his endless run of sold out broadway. AND HE LIKES MY LYRICS! Honestly, I love him…”
