Ty Segall and The Freedom Band stopped in for a show at the Capitol Theatre the other night (4/14) and they tore the place apart.
Touring behind his 10th album Freedom’s Goblin, the Laguna Beach native was a feral and splenetic presence, prowling the stage with pure punk swagger. Segall’s blend of garage rock and primal rock and roll stomp is infectious and filled with libidinous howl and heavy groove.
Playing numbers from his own discography as well as throwing in covers by The Groundhogs, Hot Chocolate and an unexpected Grateful Dead medley, Segall’s set was an invigorating reminder that rock and roll is as inspiring as it is soulfully cleansing.
