Travis Cover Del Amitri For Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland

Written by:

Today Travis released their take on Del Amitri’s “Nothing Ever Happens” as a charity Christmas single for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (SBH Scotland).

Originally released as an album-closing ballad on Del Amitri’s 1989 effort Waking Hours, the song’s 2016 reading finds it awash with sleigh bells, rolling percussion and acoustic guitars. Travis’ frontman Fran Healy finds the song’s hopeful center and even though it declares, “We’ll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow,” the accompanying video showing the SBH staff and the young children affected by the disease suggests that if we work together we won’t be lonely at all.

The single, which can be purchased on iTunes, is taken from the Pasted Beyond Recognition album, which finds Scottish musicians like Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross, Tom McRae and Julie Fowlis all taking a shot at the Del Amitri songbook. The covers project generated from the band’s loyal fanbase and after gathering a fair amount of traction, soon became a reality.

Proceeds will go to the SBH, which is a self-funded charity.

The Pasted Beyond Recognition album launch will be  will be on Saturday 17 December 2016 at the Òran Mór in Glasgow.

Tickets are £25 and can be purchased on the Òran Mór website.

The album will be available on iTunes, but if you want a CD, there’s only a limited run of 500, so act now and order one here.

Del Amitri singer Justin Currie announced earlier this year that as an auction prize he would write, record and produce a song for the highest bidder at the Scottish Entertainment And Hospitality Awards.

Proceeds from the song went directly to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus, Scotland, the official charity partner of the awards.

The SEHA site reported: “Justin was inspired to donate the personal prize after he heard about the charity and spent time with SBH Scotland’s service users at one of its bi-weekly play schemes, singing and playing with the children at an “Under the Sea” event.”

One of our favorite singer/songwriters of all time, Currie’s work is a literate and tuneful dose of heartbreak, wisdom and nerve. He bravely shines a bright light into the dark corners of our hearts and the results are always nothing less than riveting.
