Tracy Chapman’s appearance at the 2024 Grammys may have been a pleasant surprise, but that was just the beginning in the surprise department.
The Ohio-born singer/songwriter is an intensely private person, so her performance of “Fast Car” with Luke Combs was a breath of fresh air, but it was Chapman herself who ended up being surprised by the news that was waiting for her at the end of the evening.
Taken from her 1988 self-titled album, “Fast Car” won a Grammy in 1989 and now, 36 years later, the song is Number One on the U.S. iTunes chart.
On social media, Chapman exclaimed: “This is crazy!!”
