TRACK OF THE DAY – “Where Are You?” by David Vandervelde

Written by: and

We’re not sure whether this is a one-off or not* but the results make us barely care, as Vandervelde’s slice of wonderful, recorded under the Burger Records banner rather than Secretly Canadian, oozes an easy, angelic soul, rather like a SoCal-soaked Marvin Gaye, if it must be said, with more than a few sunny rays of Brian Wilson peaking in from the fringes. All we really know, aside from the fact that Burger Records seems to be expanding with grace well beyond the raw punk garage with which they made their name, is that David Vandervelde has issued this winter’s first must-have summer anthem. Sunscreen in January, anyone?

* – OK, here goes: The album from which “Where Are You?” originates (Shadow Sides) was released last September on Park The Van Records, while Burger Records issued the cassette version (of course). Got that? Then you’re ahead of us.
