Stereo Embers is sad to report that Tom Petty has died.

Details are few right now, but the musician was found unconscious at his Malibu residence after reportedly suffering what is being called “total cardiac arrest.”

The legendary singer/songwriter was 66.

One of the most beloved and successful artists of the last five decades, in his career Petty sold close to 100 million albums.

Speaking to Rolling Stone Bob Dylan said: “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”

The Florida-born Petty spent the entirety of 2016 on a valedictory tour with The Heartbreakers.

Ironically, the tour wound up a week ago after a triumphant performance at The Hollywood Bowl.

Petty is survived by his two daughters and his wife.
