Bassist Melanie Howard and Australian-born drummer Nicholas Wellauer have announced they’ve left the Wedding Present.

The married couple posted a message on Twitter where Howard explained the difficulty of the decision:

“We are sorry to let you know that both myself and Nick have stepped down from The Wedding Present. This sadly means we won’t be seeing any of you at the scheduled gigs this year in Nov/Dec, or for the Watusi tour next year. Sorry to not be able to give proper goodbye to many of you, please know that this was a difficult decision, but nonetheless the right one.”

Howard went on to thank the fans for their support and she revealed new music would be coming from her band Such Small Hands, but wasn’t sure about the timeline.

She also wrote: “We would now appreciate some privacy and space to focus and prepare for our future.”

The Wedding Present are now down to two members: braintrust and singer David Gedge and guitarist Jonathan Stewart.
