The Waterboys Release New Single “Andy (A Guy Like You)”

The Waterboys have released the second single from their upcoming album Life, Death And Dennis Hopper.

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s drive across America to visit Hopper in Los Angeles, “Andy (A Guy Like You)” is filled with swaying sixties swagger and it finds singer Mike Scott seeing the American landscape through the eyes of the late painter.

The upcoming 25-track concept album about Hopper’s life features guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple and Steve Earle.

“The arc of his life was the story of our times,” Scott says of Hopper in a press release for the record. “He was at the big bang of youth culture in Rebel Without A Cause with James Dean; the beginnings of Pop Art with the young Andy Warhol. He was part of the counterculture, hippie, civil rights and psychedelic scenes of the ’60s. In the ’70s and ’80s he went on a 10-year rip, almost died, came back, got straight and became a five-movies-a-year character actor without losing the sparkle in his eye or the sense of danger or unpredictability that always gathered around him.”

Life, Death And Dennis Hopper will be out April 4th on Sun Records.
