The Replacements will release a mammoth collection this Fall that’s bound to please longtime fans.

Out September 27, Dead Man’s Pop is a 4CD/1LP set that contains the Minneapolis band’s 1989 album Don’t Tell A Soul presented in an entirely new way.

Well, not exactly new, but, as the band declares in a press release heralding the collection, “radically reimagined.”

To put it in simpler terms, the original release of the Matt Wallace-produced album might have been the radically reimagined one. Frontman Paul Westerberg was always vocal about the album’s final production and the Chris Lord Alge mix and this version restores the album sonically to what the band originally envisioned.

The first disc of Dead Man’s Pop features a revisited mix by Wallace who used his 1988 Paisley Park mix as the source material. Disc Two contains unreleased music from an abbreviated studio visit in Bearsville, New York as well as a long-rumored session with Tom Waits.

Discs Three and Four are billed The Complete Inconcerated Live and the contents therein feature the entirety of a University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee show that was recorded in June of 1989.

Packaged in a 12×12 hardcover photo book, the book also contains liner notes by co-producer Bob Mehr.

Don’t Tell A Soul was The Replacements’ sixth album and their third for Sire. It also was the first album to feature guitarist Slim Dunlap.
