Opening up for the mighty Galactic the other night (2/10) at the Fairfield Theatre Company in Connecticut, the High and Mighty Brass Band tore the place down with their adrenalized blend of hip-hop, jazz and funk.
A riveting and wildly talented musical collective, the High and Mighty Brass Band are based out of Brooklyn, and they know how to command a stage. A horny blast of soulful grooves and New Orleans stomp, their high octane performance is already one of my favorites of the year.
They’ve collaborated with everyone from DJ Logic to Eli Paperboy Reed to Lake Street Dive and it’s easy to see why–this band has power and swing and their musical appeal is decidedly universal.
Drummer and band leader Evan Howard held it all down, while singer/trombonist Darius Christian, a guy who positively radiates charisma, moved around the stage with unbridled energy. This was a band I couldn’t take my eyes off.
Fabulous!
