Melvins drummer Dale Crover has released a new single which features Kim Thayil of Soundgarden on guitar.
Taken from Crover’s upcoming solo record Glossolalia, “I Quit” is a raggedy blast of garage stomp, with Thayil soloing away with unreasonable virtuosity.
“It’s about trying to control people and thinking that you’re right about everything,” Crover writes of “I Quit” in a press release. “It’s in a tuning that I call ‘Lazy Keith Richards.’ It opens in G, but you can only tune the A string to G. I thought it would be cool to get Kim to do a guitar solo on the track. That’s him after the second chorus.”
The Aberdeen-born Crover, who has played with Men of Porn, Crystal Fairy, Altamont, Nirvana, Redd Kross, and Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom, has been in the Melvins since 1984.
In addition to Thayil, Tom Waits and Ty Segall also appear on Glossolalia.
