The Go-Gos are calling it a day.
The beloved L.A. band who got their start back in 1978, remain the first-ever all female act who not only wrote, recorded and played their own material, but ended up at Number One on the Billboard charts with Beauty And The Beat.
The band broke up back in 1985, but have since reunited fairly regularly for tours and even recorded a record back in 2001 called God Bless The Go-Go’s.
It was their first album since 1984 and it looks like it will have to be regarded as their swan song as the band have just announced their farewell tour.
Although they will be minus bassist Kathy Valentine, the band will feature 4/5 of their classic lineup when Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and Gina Schock take their valedictory lap this summer.
Best Coast will open for the band on a majority of their dates.
“After a 38-year run, we are gearing up for one last blast of a summer tour,” The Go-Go’s wrote on their Facebook page. “We feel so lucky and so grateful to have had the incredible support of our fans for so long. We can’t wait to get out on the road and give the people what they want: some loud, fast music and a great party!”
