The Decemberists have released their first new music in six years.
Titled “Burial Ground,” the new song, which features James Mercer of The Shins, jangles mightily away against an infectious percussive beat and an impossibly catchy chorus.
In a press release about the single, singer Colin Meloy said: “‘Burial Ground’ is in that time-honored pop song tradition, a paean to hanging out in graveyards. The melody hook came to me in a dream and I hummed it into my phone on waking. Most dream-songs are bad; this was the exception.”
The band’s last effort was 2018’s Traveling On EP.
In other Decemberists news, the band have announced the dates for their 2024 tour, which starts in late April and ends in August in the Pacific Northwest.
