The Chills’ final album will be out in early 2025.
Dubbed Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs, the album is being described by the band’s label Fire Records as a passion project of the Chills’ late frontman Martin Phillipps.
Over the past decade, the New Zealand-born Phillipps dove into his archives to give life to songs that were both unreleased and unrecorded. Phillipps delved into his artistic vault to sift through journals and tapes to bring the songs of Spring Board into the world.
Of the album, Fire writes that it’s: “A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated talent.”
They go on to assure fans that, ”The album has been finalised for release with the love and support of his band, family and friends.”
Phillipps died in July at 61.
Spring Board can be ordered here.
